This is a tricky question, but we’re here to help! The street- facing portion of the fence is the homeowner’s responsibility. If the fence is shared with a neighbor, it is considered joint ownership, and you should work directly with your neighbor to make plans to repair the fence. If your backyard fence is on the perimeter community and is not shared, it is generally the homeowner’s responsibility. Sometimes the community will make perimeter fencing repairs.
